Charles Barry Morrissey, 79, of Marion, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, following a short illness. Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, by Rev. Kevin Jones. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the celebration of life begins on Saturday at the church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; mother, Norma; three daughters, Molly (Mike) Tackaberry and their daughters Sydney and Channing; Holly (Greg) Lewis and their son, Hudson; and Suzanne Elias and her daughter Brynn (Brett) Merck and their two children, Noland and Margaux; brother, Tim Morrissey; and sister, Kathy (Pete) Layden.
He was preceded in death by his father; and sister, Kelly Davis.
Barry was born April 20, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Al and Norma (Fish) Morrissey. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and the University of Iowa where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity and the Army ROTC. Barry retired from his military service as Captain in Infantry. He married Donna Doescher on April 13, 1957. Barry owned and administrated Winslow Care Center in Marion for over 30 years. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection for 50 years. Barry was a lover of nature; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an active outdoorsman. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
