Charles M. "Chuck? Meroshek, 91, a resident of Winslow House Care Center in Marion, died there Friday September 12, 2003, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2003 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion with military rites.

Surviving are his children; Judy Zier of Marion, Kathryn Simonsen of Marion, Dianne (Jim) Stimson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Mary Jane (Virgil) Krug of Atkins, Robert Meroshek (Karen) of Marion and Sharon (Dick) Mefford of Littleton, Colorado; two sisters, Rose Pospisil and Clara (Robert) Pospisil, all of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Frank (Sally) Meroshek of Marion; and two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Meroshek of Mt. Vernon, Pat (Jim) Luse of Marion and Mildred Welter of Mediapolis.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Kimberly Petersen, Robert Zier, Chris Simonsen, Molly Forbes, Travis Krug, Paul Mefford, Kerri Griffin, Sarah Gorsh and Amanda Meroshek; ten great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Susan, a brother, William and a son-in-law, Robert Zier.

Chuck was born to Frank and Mary (Vanous) Meroshek on January 21, 1912, in rural Marion. On July 19, 1936, in Marion, he was united in marriage to Susan V. Welter. She died March 10, 1992. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, training near St. Louis, Missouri, and was assigned to the 1061 Port Construction and Repair Battalion. His unit was assigned to operations on the German/French border. After V.E. Day, his unit shipped out for the Pacific, where it helped repair the harbor of Subic Bay. Chuck worked for the Linn County Road Department for eighteen years and then for REC in Marion for over twenty years. Chuck was a member of American Legion Marion Post 298, which will conduct the military rites.
