Charles William Jacobs

Charles William Jacobs, 84, passed away April 21, 2009, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Beth Straw. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the funeral home, where Masonic services will begin at 7:00 p.m. All Master Masons are invited to attend. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; eight children, Roberta (Gary) Miller of Pampa, Texas, Danny (Carylynne) of Marion, Laurie (Douglas) Sanden of Cedar Rapids, Janelle (Tracy) Seeman of Newhall, Jeffrey of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer (Ronald) Frederick of Martelle, Robert (Lisa) Phillips of Cedar Rapids and Sylesta Marine of Wellman; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Ruth, Ruby, Dorothy and Susan.
Charles was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on June 2, 1924, the son of William and Hazel (Cooper) Jacobs. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Charles married Florence Quayle Phillips on September 22, 1986. He retired from Harnischfeger in 1984. Charles was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
