Charles Randall Hill, 90, of Marion, was blessed by God on Thursday, November 12, 2009, with a holy death and taken home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. Services: 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, by Rev. Daniel Krueger, with military honors by Marion American Legion Post #298. The family will greet friends 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. Graveside Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Eagle, Wisconsin, by Rev. Jesse Cearlock (Charles’ grandson).

Charles Randall Hill was given life by his creator and was born on August 7, 1919, the child of Charles Roeloff and Louise Marguerite (Randall) Hill. He received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He instructed sailors and WAVEs at Norman, Oklahoma. Charles then attended and received his BA from Stout State, Wisconsin; his Masters from Iowa State University; his PhD from the University of Missouri at Columbia; and taught at the University of Illinois. On August 3, 1944, he received the gift of a beloved companion in his spouse, Mary Elizabeth (Sipple).

Charles was blessed with the gift of a loving family: surviving are his daughters, Catherine (Ken) Cearlock of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Ann (Jim) Scott of Ponce Inlet Florida; six grandchildren, Jim (Jill), Brent (Lorri), Jesse (Emily), Elizabeth (Ryan), Hannah (Zach), and Abby; and six great-grandchildren, Alec, Ben, Sam, Drew, Ella, and Annabelle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister, Marian Schaplow.

God blessed Charles’ life with many special people as he served God in his vocations, at home, church, work, military, and in the community.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, for the Little Lambs Preschool or Concordia Lutheran Seminary scholarships, in Charles’ memory.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staffs of Mercy Medical Center, Hospice of Mercy, and The Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their loving care and concern during Charles’ illness.
