Chuck was born July 28, 1930, the son of John and Alice (Baird) Fulton, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On October 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Elaine Jordan in Missouri. Growing up on the west side, Chuck attended Wilson High School, where he was a sports standout in baseball, basketball and football. Playing second base and hitting lead-off, Chuck and his teammates won two state baseball championships in 1947 and 1948. He also participated in American Legion Baseball, and was a semi-pro player in the M&J, Eastern Iowa and Central Iowa Leagues. Chuck spent his earlier working years in retail management, followed by 25 years as a sales rep for International Paper/MidWestern Paper, retiring in 1992.
A Director with the Kernels and a member of the Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame, Chuck had served on the board for the past 30 years. He had been active on numerous committees and was a key player in helping the Reds and Kernels make the necessary improvements mandated by Major League Baseball during the 1990's, to keep professional baseball in Cedar Rapids. Chuck had put in many hours at the park and had been a tireless worker/ambassador for the club. He also was a member of the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame and the Elks BPOE. Chuck enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.
Because of his retail and sales experience, Chuck developed a gregarious personality that often charmed and intrigued people. His sense of humor and wit will be treasured and missed. Chuck dearly loved his family and friends and was loved by them in return. A friend once said ,I wish every father and grandfather loved his family like Chuck did.
