Charles J. Dvorak, 91, of 121 26th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, August 26, 2007, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Thomas McDermott. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church the day of the service. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; daughters, Janet (Jack) Dunn of Santa Clarita, California and Jane Salat of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Dunn, Michael Dunn, Christine Harlander, Lynn Fisher, Deb Salat and Brenda Salat; and six great-grandchilren, Nick and Max Dunn, Brooke and Ben Harlander, Nick Graham and John Abolins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mike Dvorak; and sister, Helen Olson.
Charles was born April 4, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Frances (Gergela) Dvorak. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Charles and Hazel celebrated 68 years of marriage. On August 22, 1939, he was united in marriage to Hazel Pickart in St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was an independent business man operating Crispy Foods.
Charles was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church, the American Legion Hanford Post #5 and the VFW Post #788. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking and was gimmick oriented.
