Charles Allen “Chuck” O’Connor, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. William B. Harnish with military honors. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his son, Tim O’Connor of Cedar Rapids; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bruce Lawrence of Marion; 5 grandchildren, Molly Lawrence, Casey (Sarah) Lawrence, Cody (Christy) Lawrence, Carrie Griffith, Clint (Kris) Lawrence; 9 great-grandchildren, Braxton, Dalton, Miah, and Miranda Lawrence, Hunter, Holdyn, and Havana Griffith, Olivia and Bo Lawrence; an aunt, Iris Veenstra; special cousins, Richard and Shirley Seaton, and Evelyn Nelson; a niece; nephews; and a special nephew, Scott Quinby; and brother-in-law, Wayne Quinby.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and a brother, Junior, in infancy.

Chuck was born June 16, 1940, the son of Louis and Sarah (Richards) O’Connor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Washington Senior High in 1958. Chuck joined the United States Army at Ft. Hood, Texas, and serving in Germany. In 1962, he was honorably discharged. He worked at Witwere’s Warehouse, line switcher for the railroad, welder for P & H Harnischfeger, and glazer for Union Local #581 of Rock Island until his retirement. On September 20, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Knaack in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2011. Chuck enjoyed hunting of all kinds, and fishing with his family and friends, and time spent with all.
