Charles Dean “Chuck” Cram, 70, of Marion, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, due to complications of COPD. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion by Pastor Gregory Williamson. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Hiltrude; three children, Jill Cram of Cedar Rapids, Laura (Brian) Abney of Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Laura) Cram of Urbana; four grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan Egesdal and Alvadore and Jonathan Cram.
Also surviving are his stepmother Neva Cram of Branson, Missouri; his sister Doris (Richard) Armstrong of Marion; his brother Jim (Bernie) Cram of Coralville; three half-sisters Cheryl (Bill) Sextro of Sioux City, Diane (Carter) Yates of North Carolina, Julie (Tom) Quick of Arkansas; sister-in-law Christine (Jim) Kreutner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Lois Thompson and Katherine Grier; two brothers-in-law Kenny Thompson and Mark Grier; and great niece Elizabeth Feltes.
Charles was born June 27, 1938 to Clarence and Oma (Shaull) Cram in North English. He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1956. Charles served with the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He worked for Collins Radio from 1959 until his retirement in 1994 as a Quality Assurance Specialist. In 1960, Charles married Shirley Roberts, later divorced in 1979. In 1983, he was married to Hiltrude Nielson. Charles was a friend of Bill W. for 26 years.
Charles was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and looked on them as the light of his life. He continued to work on the family farm throughout his life.
