Charles (Charlie, Cookie) W. Cook, 82, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of natural causes. Services: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Jonathan Offt. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Ginny) M. Cook; a daughter, Phyllis (Jim) Sliger; a grandson, Charles (Julie) Zeman; 2 granddaughters, Dena (Brannen) Bourgeois and Ginny Sams; 7 great grandchildren, Cody Petersen, Trevor and Kenzie Zeman, Peyton and Dylan Bourgeois, Noah & Jonah Sams; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Skylar & Madison Petersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Cook and a sister, Marie JoAnn (Bobbie) Cook.
Charles was born June 18, 1926, the son of William and Lois (Burks) Cook, in Eureka, Kansas. Charles met and married his wife of 61 years in Boston, Massachusetts while in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Iowa in 1947. Charles worked for Bjornsen Construction, Bernet Construction, Homes by Larry, and Heritage Property Management, before he retired and moved to Arizona in 1990, returning to Iowa in 2003. He enjoyed his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dogs of all shapes and sizes.

In lieu of flowers, they family has requested that donations be made to St. Luke’s Hospice or Cedar Valley Humane Society in Charles’ name.
