Charles “Carl” Sindelar, 85, of Central City, died Saturday, December 17, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City by Rev. Wayne Droessler. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his children, Chuck (Sonja) Sindelar of Coggon, Terry (Cathy) Sindelar of Robins, Cheryl (Rick) Taylor of Central City, and Tom (Kim) Sindelar of Central City; and; 7 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; 3 sisters; and 5 brothers.
Carl was born November 10, 1926, in Colombia, Missouri, the son of Frank and Josephine (Korn) Sindelar. He served in the United States Army Cavalry during World War II. On August 18, 1948, Carl was united in marriage to Bernadine Brunen at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids. Bernadine died February 17, 2004. Carl was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City. He took great pride in his cattle and his beloved pet, Duke.
