Charles R. Boquist, 85, of Marion passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends Thursday, December 17, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion with Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids with military honors.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Margaret (Andrew) Beardall of Littleton, Colorado; son, Richard (Paulette) Boquist of Marion; grandsons, Michael (Ashley Schutte) Boquist and Matthew (Ashley) Boquist, both of Evansdale; great-grandchildren, Hollis Boquist, McCoy Boquist, and Mea Schutte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Glen Felker and Clair Felker.

Charles was born September 13, 1930, in Wyoming, Iowa to Don E. and Henrietta (Behnke) Boquist. He earned his bachelor's degree from Coe College and his Masters in Social Studies from the University of Iowa. He married Lois Sue Brockman on July 21, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Marion. Charles worked as a teacher for more than thirty years, retiring in 1992 from Marion Independent High School.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #6, the American Legion Post #298, and while attending Coe College he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. Charles was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. In October of 2014, he was a member of the Honor Flight and participated in the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family.

Memorial may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Charles.

There will be a luncheon at the American Legion Post #298 in Marion following the graveside service.
