He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brothers Richard and Larry Bennett, and his sister-in-law Lois Bennett.

Chuck was born January 13, 1938, in Cedar Rapids to Charles V. and Florence (Freeman) Bennett. He graduated from Franklin High School, and joined the Marines not long after graduation. He married Constance Sue Palmer on November 18, 1961. After 9 years in the Marine Corps, Charles graduated from San Francisco State and the family moved to Sioux Rapids Iowa, where Chuck taught and coached. In 1969, the couple moved to Cedar Rapids, where Connie taught at Marion and Chuck taught and coached at Roosevelt JH. He is famed for having his students build an enormous whale outside the principal’s office. After teaching he worked in insurance and pension plan retirement. Chuck loved animals and showed that love by volunteering for the IERAL horse rescue and fostering dogs for Last Hope Animal Rescue.

Chuck loved his family, horses, reading, arguing politics and time spent with friends. Despite being ill the last years of his life, he never lost his love of learning and his sense of humor. Chuck was a grand, generous, kind, and passionate man who loved a good story, kitchen gadgets, horses and his family.

The family wishes to thank the personnel of St Luke’s for their kindness and excellent care they provided to Chuck. Also thanks to the many medical professionals who have helped him over the years.
