Charlene Mae Weatherwax, 72, of Delhi, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Visitation for Charlene will be held, Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Delaware, Iowa. Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Reverend Matthew Vesey, officiating. The burial will take place at Pine View Cemetery, Delaware, Iowa. Bohnenkamp- Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, of Manchester is in charge of arrangements.
Charlene was born on January 17, 1951, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of Robert and Navadee (Penn) Russell. The family moved to Manchester in 1957, where she was raised and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1969. Charlene married Terry Weatherwax, they had two children, Eric and Nancy, the couple later divorced. She was employed by Ertl Toys, now known as TOMY in Dyersville, Iowa, retiring in 1998. Charlene was a faithful and devoted member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Delaware. She was a kind and gracious person, always checking to make sure everyone was ok, and willing to help others. Some of Charlene’s favorite sayings were that “hugging is good for the heart,” “tomorrow will be better,” “don’t dwell on the past,” and she always made sure to say “I love you” before ending any conversation. Charlene was also known for baking the best cherry and pumpkin bars, feeding the birds, tending to her flower gardens, decorating for the holidays, sending Christmas cards, and her huge collection Boyds Bear’s. Charlene will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Charlene is survived by her, children, Eric D. Weatherwax of Broomfield Colorado, Nancy Edaburn of Farley, Iowa; grandchildren, Aidan Edaburn (Emma Phelps), and Kaylee Edaburn; great-granddaughter, Blakely Mae due in November; and her siblings, Richard (Bev) Russell of Euphrata, Washington and Karen A. (Buzz) McCoy, Crawfordsville, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Navadee Russell; and sister, Constance Russell.
