Charlene “Charlie” Shurtz, 68, of Atkins, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids due to complications from COVID-19. Visitation: 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service will begin at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Charlie was born April 11, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Dorothy (O’Brine) DeLong. Charlie was married to Terry Shurtz for 17 years. The couple later divorced. Charlie liked making jewelry and traveling. She worked at Crest Services for over 20 years. She also enjoyed her feathered companion, Tammy.
Survivors include her children, Mike (Angie) Shurtz of Vinton and Jennifer (Steve) Fisher of Atkins; grandchildren, Dalton Shurtz (Kellsie Lane) and Nathan, Aliyha and Ella Fisher; nephew Jeff (Tawnya) Salsbery and their children, Jeffrey (Megan) and Jayson Salsbery; niece, Crystal Salsbery; and bonus daughter, Cindy Franck.
Charlie was preceded in death by her parents; infant granddaughter, Courtney Fisher; and sisters, Linda Salsbery and Ann Hartford.
