Celia Anderson-Hayes, 69, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at her sister’s home in Cedar Rapids. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Celia’s life is planned for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the New Haven Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 8714 Antioch Road, Overland Park, Kansas 66212, where inurnment will be held. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Celia was born on June 3, 1953, in Ancón, Panama, the daughter of Warrand and Adela Martha (Roper) Anderson. She was a 1971 graduate of Francis Lewis High School in New York City and went on to attend Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, earning her Bachelor of Arts. She then attended American University in Washington, DC. Her first marriage ended in divorce. Several years later, Celia was united in marriage to Abel Hayes in Los Angeles, California on November 22, 1996.

She was the Administrator of the IT Department of Republic Factors in Los Angeles, California. She trained their workers overseas, in Germany and in India. She was also the Director at a long-term care facility in Los Angeles County, California. She resigned from this position when her husband fell ill and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri.

Celia was a member of the Mount Olive Seventh-day Adventist Church in Apopka, Florida. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Celia is survived and lovingly remembered by her siblings, Sharon (Louis Jr.) Collins of Cedar Rapids, Tameka (Robert) Tyson of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Frank Anderson of Coldwater, Michigan; three step-daughters, Michelle Hayes-Moore, Sherrill (Nick) Barkman, Shannon Hayes, and one stepson Michael Moore; sisters-in-law, Phelicia Anderson of New York, Melva Watts of California, Kathryn Williams of Chicago, and Lorna Arrington of Washington; two nephews, Louis (Melissa) Collins and Nathaniel “Nate” Collins; and four nieces, Serena Collins, Kimberlyn Tyson, Ashlyn Tyson, and Emily Anderson; cousins Maria Tomba, Billy Tomba, and Sabrina Hodge-Regan; and the following grandchildren: Sydney, Alex, Regan, Vincent, Dominic, Eve, and countless relatives outside the USA and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Abel Hayes; two brothers, William and Anthony Anderson; and one sister, Thelma Anderson.
