Celestia Robinson Nance Wingfield Perkins, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, evening, September 21, 2006, in her daughter?s home, at 5:45 p.m., following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William C. Perkins. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Sidney and wife Linda Wingfield of Sarasota, Florida, Darlene and husband Sterling Miller of Cedar Rapids, Marcus Perkins of Iowa City, Iowa, and a stepdaughter, Lillian Haynes of New York City, New York; five grandchildren, Theodore Wingfield II, Laroi Dean, Devin Perkins, Dylan Perkins and Tracy Wingfield; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three sisters, Frances Baker, Dorothy Shepherd and Clementine Chipley; a brother, James Nance; a son, Theodore Wingfield; a stepdaughter, Erma Carr; and a stepson, Thomas Wingfield.

Celestia was born April 23, 1914, the daughter of Sidney James and Estellar (Robinson) Nance, in Estherville, Iowa. In 1942, she married Thomas Wingfield. He died in May of 1945. Celestia later married Fred Perkins. He died in September of 1986. She worked most of her years as a tailor for commercial businesses, which included Newman?s, The Syndicate, Armstrong?s, Clancy?s, Killian?s, and Margaret Morris Dress Shop. A graduate of Mt. Mercy College in 1981, Celestia also was a social worker and a para- educator.
