Catherine G. Cannon, 84, of Manchester, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2006 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester, by Rev. Jill Mack. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 12:15 p.m. Friday in the Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, Iowa.

Catherine was born August 25, 1921 in Frankville, the daughter of Claude and Lucille (Crabtree) Van Wey. She attended school in Frankville and graduated from Postville High School in 1938. Catherine taught rural school in Frankville before her marriage to Dean A. Cannon in 1941. The couple settled in southern Minnesota and farmed. In the mid 1940?s they moved to Cresco and later to Fenton and Rockwell, Iowa. The family moved to Manchester in the mid 1960?s.

Catherine was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church.

Catherine is survived by three children, Mary Beason of Marion, David (Agnes) Cannon of Manchester and Lynn Cannon of West Union; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Cannon of Galesburg, IL and Donna Jean Cannon of Cedar Rapids; a son-in-law, Richard Gearhart of Marion; brother, Lester Van Wey of Waukon; and a sister-in-law, Irma Van Wey of Waukon.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean Cannon; children, Frank, John and Roger Cannon and Donna Gearhart; brother, John Van Wey; a sister, Lila; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Van Wey.
