Jane was born October 14, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of James F. Mote and Bessie (Jacobs) Mote. She worked at Danceland Ballroom at 16, waiting tables. She sang often on stage with nationally known bands such as Bob Crosby and Perry Como. Later she worked as a dental assistant and then she worked at Souvenir Pencil Factory. After retirement Jane and Wayne spent most of their time together traveling and with their family.

After the death of her husband Wayne, her niece, Cheryl Nemec introduced her to many local entertainers around Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed attending local entertainers at coffee shops and at the Wild Hogs. The friends she met during the last few years of her life meant a great deal to her and they treated each other like family.
