Carroll Floyd Mulford, 80, of Marion, died Monday, September 22, 2008, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, at Marion Christian Church by Rev. Dr. Robert Kunz and Chaplain Joe Kane. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane of Marion; his children, Karen (Larry) Oakley of Cedar Rapids, Stan (Dawn) Mulford of Denton, Texas, and Kelly Mulford of Marion; six grandchildren, Michelle Swaner, Kirra Hunter, Jenna Mulford, Jay Mulford, April McGlynn, and Linzee Prill; four great-grandchildren; and Mary Jane’s wonderful family who supported Carroll so much these last years, Carol (David) Manning, LeAnna Franklin (Keith Bancroft) of Kewannee, Wisconsin, Keith (Connie) Kemp of Savannah, Georgia, Christine (Tim) Hehr of Cedar Rapids and their children; his cat, Angel; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; two brothers, Harold and Clifford; and a daughter-in-law, Holly.

Carroll was born November 19, 1927, the son of Floyd and Marion LaVerne (Nichols) Mulford. He attended Columbus Junction High School. Carroll served with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII. He worked for numerous pharmacies in the Marion and Cedar Rapids area, including Sorg’s Pharmacy in Marion. Carroll later worked at Sears until his retirement in 1989. He married Evelyn McKee September 10, 1949, in Conesville. They loved to travel with their motor home to places like Colorado or Alaska. They spent many winters in Florida until Evelyn’s death in 2000. He then married Mary Jane Kemp Murr April 2, 2006. Even though their time together was short, they spent their time with laughs, fun, and travel.

Carroll enjoyed playing cribbage, poker, fishing, reading about history, and was an avid John Wayne fan. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 548 in Marion.
