Carolyn Jean Hemphill, 63, of 614 I Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, February 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, following a sudden illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Sharon United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Bob Daggett. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids
Survivors include her children, Rick (Pam), Bryan (Lisa), Kevin, and Bonnie (Abbas) Hemphill Sholaty, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Brianna) Gordon of Marion; and two sisters, Evelyn Cox of Cedar Rapids and Judy Reinholt of Hazelton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; and two brothers, Edward and Ken Gordon.
Carolyn was born November 4, 1944, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Dunham) Gordon, in Ely, Iowa. On March 16, 1962, she was united in marriage to Dale Hemphill in Cedar Rapids. An avid NASCAR and Iowa Hawkeye fan, Carolyn enjoyed puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Carolyn.
