Carolyn Ann Heitz

Dr. Carolyn Ann Heitz, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Summit Pointe Senior Living in Marion. Her family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Langley officiating. A burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids.
Carolyn was born on January 4, 1939, in Tiffin, Iowa, the daughter of John Paul and Gladys Marie (Hamilton) Foote. She was a 1956 graduate of Belle Plaine High School and went on to earn her BA and master’s degree in education in 1960 from the University of Iowa. On September 3, 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage to John L. Heitz and to this union, two daughters were born. They later divorced. In 1979, she completed her doctorate from the University of Iowa in education. Carolyn was employed for many years as a Professor at various schools, including Linn-Mar, U of I, and UW Stout in Wisconsin. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Carolyn’s devotion throughout her life was education and educating teachers all over. She was not only very influential in helping them prosper in their career as an educator, Carolyn also created, owned and operated a special business providing education materials for teachers, long before the internet. Most of all, Carolyn was a kind, loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carolyn is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan (Gordon) Grensteiner of Marion and Jennifer (Joshua) King of Hills, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Makayla (Mitch) Kacena and Mitchell Grensteiner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ralph Zepp.
