Betty Berger, 85, a resident of Winslow House Care Center, died Thursday, November 4, 2004, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday. Private Family Graveside Committal Services: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Al of Marion; a daughter, Janie McGowan of Marion; three grandsons, Casey (Jane) McGowan of Cedar Rapids, Adam (Julie) McGowan of Cedar Rapids and Joby McGowan of Seattle, Washington; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Mackenzi, Emilee, Stoan and Tripp.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty was born April 13, 1919, the daughter of Robert L. and Lois B. (DuBois) Allender in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids and received her BA in Economics from the University of Iowa. On November 25, 1944, she married Alfred H. Berger in Cedar Rapids. She and her husband, Al have owned and operated Berger Furriers in Marion for 57 years.
