Carol J. Ricklefs, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died March 25, 2016. Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Private burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Michele Africa of Manchester, and Matthew (Janie) Ricklefs of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Sarah (Ben) Harmer of LaPorte City, Lindsey (Kevin) Zirtzman of Earlville, Tyler Africa and Brandon Wellman, both of Manchester; great-grandchildren, Logan and Dalton Africa, Makenah and Aubrey Zirtzman; nephews, David Ricklefs, Mark (Sue) King, Jeff (Michelle) King, Greg (Brandy) King, David (Janice) Ricklefs; nieces, Vicki, Sherry and Marcia ; great-nephews, J.P. and Mitch King; and brother-in-law, Delbert Ricklefs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gayland; and sisters, Darlene King and Joyce Wegner.
Carol was born May 24, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Linder) Bruns, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and Hamilton Business College. On May 17, 1958, Carol was united in marriage to Gayland Ricklefs in Cedar Rapids. For most of her working career, she worked as an office assistant. Carol was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed NASCAR, John Denver, working around her house and outdoors. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Carol also enjoyed taking care of and had a special place in her heart for her granddogs, Wiley and Chloe.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or St. Luke’s Hospice in memory of Carol.
