Carol M. Ortberg, 69, of Peosta, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City from complications from a cerebral hemorrhage.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2010 at the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa by Rev. Dianne Christopher. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday at the Fairview Cemetery in Earlville. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Carol was born April 15, 1941 in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Louise (Lechtenberg) Koelker. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1958, and Carpi Cosmetology School in Dubuque in 1969. On October 30, 1958, Carol was united in marriage to Robert Ortberg in Earlville. Carol retired in 2000 from the Dubuque Community School System after 22 ½ years of service. She very much enjoyed working with children.
Carol was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Dubuque. For the past ten years, Carol and Robert enjoyed spending winters in Lake Placid, FL.
Carol is survived by her husband, Robert Ortberg of Peosta; four children, Eric (Karen) Ortberg of Waconia MN, Robert “Kelly” (Valerie) Ortberg of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Connie) Ortberg of Carver, MN, Kera Ortberg (Dave Wydman) of Barrington, IL; seven grandchildren, Jason Ortberg, Ryan (Angie) Ortberg, Kaitlyn Ortberg, Abigail Ortberg, Alex Ortberg, Caroline Wydman, Maggie Wydman; one great-grandson, Kale Ortberg; three sisters, Verna Hawker, Marilyn Michael, Lois (Harry) Lahr; two sisters-in-law, Betty Koelker and Bernice Koelker.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Louise Koelker; two brothers, Louis “Bud” Koelker and Llewellyn Koelker.
