Carol M. (Jordan) Mentzer Mullinex, 76, formerly of Marion, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, Iowa. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa. Per Carol’s request, there will be no visitation. Burial: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include her new husband, Duane Mullinex of Maquoketa; daughter, Judy (Bill) Coffman of Harrison, Arkansas; her father, James M. Jordan of Marion; 3 brothers and 2 sisters, Kenneth (Mena) Jordan, Lloyd (Shirley) Jordan, and Garnet Warren, all of Marion; John (Sharon) Jordan of Naples, Florida and Judy (James) Kotrba of Itasca, Illinois; 10 step-children John Mentzer, Bill Mentzer, Jerry Mentzer, Marjorie Rice, Mike Mentzer, Don Mentzer, George Mentzer, Peggy Cunningham, Janice Robbins and Linda Hurley; 51 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband of 48 years, Buddy Mentzer.
Carol was born August 31, 1934, the daughter of James M. and Avalda M. (Willis) Jordan, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was very active in Linn County Iowa’s 4-H program in her early years and was crowned 4-H queen in Linn County in 1951. Carol and her late husband, Bud, were residents of Omaha, Nebraska for over 30 years, where Carol was a 4-H leader for over 10 years. Carol and Bud enjoyed their retirement by taking many trips and spending time with their family and grandchildren. They were living at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa when Bud passed away at the age of 84, from complications of Alzheimers. On September 25, 2009, Carol married Duane Mullinex of Maquoketa, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association in Carol’s memory.
