Carol Lee Maudsley Hansen Ballard, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, February 24, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Memorial visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her loving husband always of 28 years, Bryan Ballard of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jackie Hansen of New Orleans, LA; and bother, Dennis Maudsley of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffery A. Hansen; brother, Patrick J. Maudsley; and sister, Sharon Petersen.
Carol was born on September 20, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Donald and Verna (Benjamin) Maudsley. She most recently worked as a writer’s publishing instructor for Kirkwood Community College, she was an author of several mystery-suspense novels, nonfiction and children’s books. Carol was formerly employed as a Security Director and Evening Manager-On-Duty for Collins Plaza Hotel for ten years and Security Director for Lindale Mall for six years. She spent many of her years employed in law enforcement and security in a variety of capacities and was an active member of the Cedar Rapids-Marion Fire Prevention Board, serving as chairman, co-chairman and secretary.
She enjoyed encouraging her students to be the best that they could be by producing great novels to entertain the public. When not teaching, she could be found gardening, fishing or stirring up the next book.
Carol will miss sharing her talents with others as well as we will miss her.
