Carmen L. Diehl, 81, formerly of 2741 B Avenue NE, died, Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Crestview Acres, Marion, of an extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Ron Lewis. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sons, John Diehl and wife Marcia of Barlett, Illinois, and David Diehl and wife Nancy of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Josh Diehl, Seth Diehl, Jody Diehl and Danielle Aeschbacher; 2 brothers, Richard Ammeter and wife Phyllis of Central City and Gary Ammeter and wife Phyllis of Blue Grass, Iowa; 3 nieces, Tracie Maurice of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Owen of Dallas, Texas and April Ammeter of Manhattan Beach, California; and one nephew, Chris Ammeter of Central City.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, John Vampola and Richard Diehl and her parents.
Carmen was born June 25, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Ann Brenzikofer Ammeter, in Central City, Iowa. She was a comptroller at Century Engineering for many years. Carmen was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon and the Aquarelles Synchronized Swimming Club in Cedar Rapids. She loved to fish, play pinochle, golf and enjoyed traveling and dancing. Carmen was a sweetheart to everyone.
