Carlene J. Meier, 78, of 1006 Brockman Drive S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, December 7, 2008, in University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, in Iowa, City, following a
short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2208, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son, Paul Meier of Cedar Rapids; her sister, Margarett (Art) Kelly of Destin, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Carlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald “Donnie”; brothers, Oakley Davis and Alan Davis; and sisters, Laura Ann Reynolds and Mary Beth Neith.
Carlene was born September 2, 1930, at home in rural Chickasaw county, the daughter of William and Ruth (Richardson) Davis. She graduated from Alpha high school class of 1948 and attended Upper Iowa University and Iowa State Teachers College. On June 4, 1960, Carlene was united in marriage to Donald “Donnie” Meier, in Guttenberg, Iowa. He died August 25, 2008.
Carlene taught in rural schools and from 1954-1956 at Coggon Elementary, 1956-1960 at Guttenberg and Marion from 1960-1964, then retiring to stay home and care for her family. She loved music and making quilts.
Carlene was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church since 1961.
