Carla Jean Phillips Titus, 78, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Barbra Keiper. Private family committal will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to service time on Friday.
Survivors include a son, Rick Titus and wife Julia of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Jennifer Louise Titus; a niece Jackie (Gene) Luth of Cedar Rapids; a great-nephew Gene R. (Carol) Luth of Cedar Rapids; a friend, Pat Unruh of Cedar Rapids; and many other nieces and nephews.
Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, her parents, three brothers and six sisters.
Carla was born the daughter of James and Sellesta "Bessie? Varner Phillips on February 23, 1926, in Cedar Rapids. On May 25, 1946, in Cedar Rapids she was married to Herbert LeRoy Titus. He died in 1971. Carla worked for the Cedar Rapids Public Schools as a cook and was co-owner of Titus Machinery Moving Company and also Tri-Mi Crafts.
She loved being outdoors and was an avid morelle mushroom hunter. Carla especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Jennifer
