Carl B. Wilford, 71, of Center Point, died Thursday, November 4, 2004, in his home, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, at St. Ludmila?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Thomas McDermott. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a Vigil service beginning at 6:00 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette; his daughter, Jolene (John) Snyder of Cedar Rapids; and two sons, Michael (Gloria) Wilford of Clinton, Illinois, and David (Teresa) Wilford of Solon, Iowa; his grandchildren, Kendal (Jeff), Sarah, Amanda (Mike), Audra, Greg (Kate), Rachel, Ben, Katie, Thomas, Angel and Caroline; two great-grandchildren, Adam and Tyler Ben; two sisters, Dory (John) Hoyle and Ruth Vaupel, both of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Charles (Sylvia) Wilford of Cedar Rapids and Tom (Carolee) Wilford of Sun City, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Wilford; a brother-in-law, A.J. Vaupel; a sister-in-law, Arlene Wilford; and two nephews, Frank Wilford, Jr. and Jerry Wilford.
Carl was born January 27, 1933, the son of Floyd and Hazel Wilson Wilford, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the United States Navy as a machinist mate second class during the Korean War. On October 11, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jeanette at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. For 30 years, Carl worked for the United States Post Office, retiring as a mail carrier. He was an avid Hawkeye and Green Bay Packer fan. Carl also loved to read and listen to music. He was a member of the St. Ludmila?s Church, VFW Post #788 and National Association of Letter Carriers.
