Carl Starr, Jr. 79, of Manchester died August 24, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan by Rev. Tim Miller. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 27 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester. Additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial: Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Ryan.
Carl was born April 27, 1934 in Wood Center, IA, the son of Carl and Etta (Hansel) Starr, Sr. On July 3rd, 1988, Carl was united in marriage to Bertha Ann Kammerman -Myers. Carl worked as a welder for Harnishfeger for 20 years, retiring in 1982. Following retirement, he ran a small engine business and sold John Deere mowers.
Carl was a people person and enjoyed visiting with everyone. He enjoyed fishing, Nascar racing, camping, western music, and being with his grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife, Bertha Starr of Manchester; their ten children, DeWayne (Cheryl) Starr of Cedar Rapids, Larry Starr of Cedar Rapids, Rick Starr of Palo, Tammy (Dave) Dvorsky, of Marion, Gerald Starr of Cedar Rapids, David W. Myers of Peoria, IL, Diane (Scott) Ballinger of Houston, TX, Mark (Carolyn) Myers of Mechanicsville, Dawn (Kevin) Simmons of Monticello, and Michael (Connie) Myers of Manchester; twenty-six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (Louise) Starr, Velma McNeil, and Donna Smock; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Etta Starr; three brothers, James, George, and Frank Starr; and three sisters, Erma Evers, Burnita Franck, and Dorothy Wilken.
A memorial fund has been established in Carl’s memory.
