Carl Duane Stacey, 76, of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Carl was born on November 30, 1947, in Berryville, Arkansas, the son of Carl Lynn and Rita Mae (Middleton) Stacey. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1974. His service includes active duty in the Vietnam War. He grew up in Berryville and moved to Ottumwa in 1978 with his family, where he continued his work as a welder and joined the Boilermaker’s Union. Carl worked at Wimbco Tank for over 30 years, before his retirement in 2009. He was an avid member of the American Legion. Carl loved the outdoors, spending time with his buddies fixing up old cars, being young again with his grandkids, and taking care of his pet, Little Bit. He always had a soft spot for stray animals and always took them in like his own. Carl was deeply loved by all his family and friends, especially Laura Newton. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Carl is survived and lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Cheri (Matt) Van Hauen of Waukee, Iowa, Christy (Jon) Yetley of Solon, Iowa, and Jessica (Anthony) Roberts of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Cole and Jayden Van Hauen, Luke, Gabe, and Grace Yetley, and Theodore and Maizie Roberts; and siblings, June Stacey of Springdale, Arkansas, and Tommy Stacey of Greenwood, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Rita Stacey; and four siblings, Lelia Mae, Peggy, Jimmy, and Bobby Gene.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Carl will be laid to rest with his family members at Moore Cemetery, outside of Berryville. Memorials in Carl’s memory may be directed to the Heartland Humane Society Animal Shelter in Ottumwa.
