Carl Gilbert Gaulke, 76, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 116 Guetzko Ct., in Manchester, where an additional visitation will take place one hour prior to the service time. Pastor Isaiah Armbrecht will officiate. A private family committal service with Military Honors will take place at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, in Adel, Iowa.

Carl was born on February 19, 1948, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Charles and Mildred (Peterson) Gaulke. He was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. Carl entered into the United States Navy, where he proudly served our country. He married Judy Rae Huffman on June 28, 1975, at Pikes Peak State Park in McGregor, Iowa. To this union, four children were born. Throughout Carl’s life, he was employed with several companies as an Industrial Maintenance Worker, a Welder and an Electrician, and was even self-employed for several years. Carl was a fabricator and an analytical person, when problems arise, he came up with new and innovative ways to fix or solve anything. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester, American Legion Post 45 in Manchester, and the USS Washoe County LST 1165 Assocation. Carl loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Carl is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Judy Gaulke of Manchester; children, Jamie (Brett) Betels of Ryan, Iowa, Chad (Jennifer) Gaulke and Dawn (Kenny) Ingles both of Manchester, and Rebecca Reilly of Walker, Iowa; grandchildren, Hailey, Grant, and Krista Betels, Colby and Avery Gaulke, Madelyn Gray, Brinley and Camden Ingles, and Toxy and Tuff Reilly; and a host of several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Gaulke; twin brothers at infancy, Patrick and Michael Gaulke; sisters, Pam Spargrove, and Kristy Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Orpha Huffman; one sister-in-law, Patricia Paul-Shilhanek; and four brothers-in-law, Michael Smith, Fred Shilhanek, Darwin “Clem” Paul, and Dale Simmons.

Memorials in memory of Carl may be directed to either: The Hematology Oncology Department of the Veterans Administration Clinic in Iowa City; or Care Initiatives Hospice.
