Carl E. Anderson, 87, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids with military honors by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lynn (Bob) Rathje of Marion and Linda (Chris) Thompson of Robins; four grandchildren, Jon (Vicki) Rathje, Amy (Scott) Bahmann, Laura (Dan) Taylor, and Emily Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Julia and Carl Rathje and Kailey and Alex Bahmann; a brother, William “Pete” (Loana) Anderson of Santa Rosa, California; a sister-in-law, Louise Anderson of Des Moines; four nieces and nephews, Deann, Dean, Scott, and David; and his loyal canine companion, Oscar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bev; and his twin brother, Daryl.
Carl was born October 7, 1926, the son of William and Aida (Weaver) Anderson in Weldon. He graduated from LeRoy Consolidated High School in 1944. Carl served with the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII. He then earned his B.S. from Iowa State University where he graduated with honors in 1951. Carl married Beverly Jo Cartwright on June 8, 1952 in Osceola. She died March 21, 1994. Carl worked for (Rockwell) Collins Radio as a Quality Assurance Engineer from 1960 until his retirement in 1987.
Carl was a member of Marion Christian Church, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, Past Master of Masonic Lodge #6 AF & AM of Marion, Fraternal Order of Eagles #4522 of Marion and Past President of Acacia Fraternity of ISU. Carl participated in one of the first Honor Flights to Washington D.C., was a lifelong Cyclones fan, and enjoyed restoring antique cars.
A memorial fund has been established in Carl’s memory.
