Calvin Bixler, Jr.

Calvin Bixler, Jr., 78, of 3336 Chester Rd., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died, Friday, February 8, 2008, at his home, following a sudden illness. Services: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Pastor Darran Whitting will officiate.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; his children, Kenneth (Jayne) Bixler, David (Darrah) Bixler, Judy (Mark) Chazkin, Beverly (Tony) Oommen and Bill (Karen) Bixler; his stepchildren, Patrick (Beth) O’Neill, Kelly (Diana) O’Neill, and Kathleen O’Neill; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Jean (Art) Germann, Dana (Owen) Beatty, Evelyn (Walter) Cooley and Mary Lou Rettstatt; a brother-in-law, Wendell Newcomb; his extended family, Mark, Kelly, Brennan and Keagan Russell; several nieces and nephews; and his good friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vivian Newcomb.
Calvin was born December 10, 1929, the son of Calvin and Loah (Koons) Bixler, Sr., in Wauseon, Ohio. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On December 30, 1967, he married Sue O’Neill. Calvin worked in the automotive industry as a wiring engineer. He loved his gardening and birds, but most of all he loved his grandchildren. Calvin will be dearly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Calvin.
