C. F. Foster, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Manchester Gospel Hall. Family will greet friends from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services at the Gospel Hall. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
C. F. was born July 4, 1917, in rural Buchanan County, the son of Carl and Pearl (Lewis) Foster. C. F. graduated from Winthrop High School in 1935. He served with the United States Army during WWII in Australia. On June 27, 1945, he was united in marriage to Barbara E. Welch at the Gospel Hall in Manchester. C. F. worked in Manchester at Mills & Yuska Hardware and owned and operated the Winthrop Hardware Store, retiring in 1986. C. F. and Barbara lived in Manchester raising their seven children and provided foster home care for many children too numerous to count. C.F. was a very humble and gentle person. Barbara passed away in 2009 after 64 years of marriage.
C. F. is survived by one daughter, Donna Jean (Ray) Snyder of Manchester; six sons, John (Linda) Foster, Tim (Joyce) Foster both of Manchester, Scott (Tammy) Foster of Aurora, IL, Denis (Sheryl) Foster of Marshalltown, Bill (Theresa) Foster of Columbus, OH, and Gerald Foster; two foster daughters, Alison (Gary) Schneider and Juanita (Tracey) Smith; thirteen grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Bell Williams, of Iowa City.
C.F. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and three brothers, Claude, Robert, and Vergil Foster.
