C. Gheula Ayers, 97, formerly of Ryan passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester after an extended illness. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City, by Pastor Wil Dilsaver. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home and from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Coggon Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Waneitta (Harold) Henderson and June Emerson both of Coggon, Tom Ayers of Manchester and Dorothy (Bill) Woods of Cody, Wyoming.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, four brothers, three sisters, a sixteen month old daughter, and a son-in-law, R. J. Emerson.

Gheula was born June 30, 1906, the daughter of Hiram and Mary Coakley in McDonough County in Illinois. She graduated from high school in Washington, Iowa. On June 6, 1925, she was united in marriage to Harold Ayers in Mt. Pleasant. He died August 31, 1982.

After living in the Washington area for their first years they moved to the Robinson area in 1934 and that?s where she resided until a stroke sent her to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester in October of 1992. In the 50?s she drove a school bus for Coggon and then worked in food service at Camp Wapsi and The Hut in Ryan.

Gheula loved to cook and you were always welcomed into her home. She also loved her crafts, quilting, playing cards and helping others. She enjoyed eighteen winters in Florida.

She was loved and will be sorely missed by her family.

Memorials may be sent to the Good Neighbor Home, 105 McCarren Drive, Manchester, Iowa, or a charity of your choice.

Following the committal at the cemetery the family would like to have you join them for a time of fellowship at the United Parish Church in Coggon.
