Burnell E. Hines, 71, of Center Point, died Tuesday, September 16, 2003, in his home, following complications of diabetes. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2003, at the First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Emily; his children, Marlis Benedict, William (Sarah) Hines, Debbie (Chad) Wright, all of Marion; Nancy Hines of Cedar Rapids, Nadene (Terry) Reece and Dean (fiancee, Angie) Hines, all of Center Point; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phylis (Forrest) Stahr of Cedar Rapids and Fern (Carl) Pensil of Guttenburg; two brothers, Marcene (Linda) Hines of Central City and Deryl (LuAnn) Hines of Edgewood; and his dog, Runner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Burnell was born May 14, 1932, the son of Roberto and Anna Lamphier Hines, in Clayton County, Iowa. On January 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Emily Butters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burnell worked for Universal Engineering as a foreman, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Center Point and a 50-year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #831. Burnell enjoyed hunting for mushrooms and dealing in cars. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
