Burdette L. Klendworth, 91, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, in the Oelwein Health Care Center, Oelwein, Iowa, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Burdette Lee Klendworth was born on November 22, 1916, in Dana, Illinois, to Elsie May (Powell) Klendworth and Lee Klendworth. Burdette was the eldest of six children including Maxine, Roy, Russell, Don and Carl. Burdette grew up on a farm near Dana and attended the Dana school. In 1939, he married Virginia McGrew and they farmed near Dana and raised two sons until 1957 when the family moved to a farm near Stanley, Iowa. In 1962, the Klendeworth’s purchased a farm north of Troy Mills, Iowa, where Burdette farmed the land and also worked at the North Linn High School as a custodian until retirement. In 1980, Burdette sold the farm and moved to Troy Mills for their retirement years. His wife Virginia passed away in 1990 and within a few years, Burdette moved to Oelwein living first in assisted-living and for the last eight years at the Oelwein Care Center.
Survivors include two sons, Bill (Sue) Klendworth of Oelwein, and Bruce (Joetta) Klendworth, Sr. of Troy Mills; two granddaughters, Debbie (Buzz) Adkisson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tammy (Bill) Walenceus of Westgate, Iowa, Bruce Wayne Klendworth, Jr. and fiancé Misty Martens of Coggon, and Dan (Tracy) Klendworth of Walker; three great grandsons; and five great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Elsie May Klendworth; his wife, Virginia (McGrew) Klendworth; his brother, Roy Klendworth; sister, Maxine Moritz; and three nephews, John Klendworth, Daniel Klendworth and Rusty Klendworth.
