Buddy G. Mentzer, 84, a resident of Crestridge Incorporated in Maquoketa, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the care center, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Inurnment: Jordan's Grove Cemetery, rural Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; eleven children, John and Bev Mentzer of Churdan, Jerry and Mary Jo Mentzer of Boone, Mike and Terry Mentzer of Gowrie, Marj Rice and Carl Baker of West Des Moines, George Mentzer, Don and Pam Mentzer, Peggy and Eldon Cunningham, Janice and Fred Robbins and Linda and Otto Hurley, all of Jefferson; Judy and Bill Coffman of Harrison, Arkansas, Bill and Donna Mentzer of Virginia; his father-in-law, James Jordan; in-laws, Kenneth and Mina Jordan, Lloyd and Shirley Jordan and Garnet Warren, all of Marion; John and Sharon Jordan of Naples, Florida, Jim and Judy Kotrba of Itasca, Illinois; a cousin, Pat Lowe of Cedar Rapids; fifty grandchildren; fifty-eight great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Also surviving are twelve brothers and sisters, Ivan and Loretta Farlin of Springview, Nebraska, Don and Pat Farlin of Wareham, Massachusetts, Leslie and Bev Farlin and Robert and Vivian Wood of Big Springs, Nebraska, Stan and Lois Farlin of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joanne Farlin of Colorado, Joe and Marilyn Mentzer, Jim and Jean Mentzer and Chuck Mentzer of Missouri Valley, Esther and Virgil Nichols of San Marino, California, Dorothy and Hardy John of Council Bluffs, and Robert and Ann Mentzer of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter; a brother; and three sisters.

Buddy was born May 6, 1923, the son of James B. and Augusta K. (Otto) Mentzer in Carroll. He married Carol M. Jordan on his thirty-sixth birthday, May 6, 1959. Buddy became a member of the Labor Union in September of 1956. He worked for Peter Kiewit & Sons for over thirty years, and was yard foreman for twenty-six years before his retirement in 1985. Buddy was a resident of Omaha, Nebraska for eighteen years before moving to Audobon, Iowa in 1989.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa, in Buddy's memory.
