Bryce E. Mitchell, 85, of 1708 Sierra Drive N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, April 24, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his children, Opal (Robert) Wheeler of Topeka, Kansas, Steven (Debra) Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, Gregory Mitchell of Cedar Rapids and Karen (John) Choe of Singapore; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Jean Meade; brothers, Melvin Mitchell and Leonard Mitchell; and special friend, Laverna Hansen.
Bryce was preceded in death by his wife, Maria; parents; one great grandchild; sisters, Florence Lietz and Marjorie Bahr; and brother, Robert Mitchell.
Born September 19, 1923, on a farm near Dow City, Iowa, Bryce was the son of Benjamin and Helena (Greider) Mitchell. He served in the U. S. Army. On Nov. 5, 1954, he married Maria Vohs. Bryce was an engineer for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 40 years retiring in 1983.
Bryce enjoyed installing life lines through St. Luke’s Hospital and participated in the Laborers for Christ.
