Bruce (Bud) Phillips, Sr., 60, of 1218 B Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; son, Bruce (Noelle Cooper); daughter, Carrie (John Mincks) Phillips; special daughter, Melissa Cones, all of Cedar Rapids; and special son, Mike Phillips, of Winterset; three grandchildren; his mother Margaret Phillips of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Bill (Judy) of Arizona; two sisters, Shirley Phillips of Cedar Rapids and Cindy Miller of St. Mary’s, Ohio; many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud; two special friends, Bob Hildenbrand and Clif Anderson; and three little dogs whom he dearly loved, Sophie, Mia and Mr. Big.
Bud was born October 30, 1946, the son of Margaret and Bill Phillips in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He also was in the United States Army. On January 10, 1966, he was united in marriage to Connie Jones. He worked and retired from Evergreen Packaging International Paper. Bud loved boxing, fishing and hunting with his good friends and grandsons. He also loved high school wrestling and was president of the wrestling booster club, where his son Bruce, wrestled all through high school.
Bud adored his grandchildren, Nathan, Seth and Kaylea Phillips. He enjoyed them every minute of their lives and was so very proud of them. The very core of his family, Bud’s death will have an impact on our lives for all time. He was dearly loved.
