She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her son, Kim; her mother, Janie Ford; brothers, Ted and Sonny; sister, Cheryl; and niece, Pam Mohwinkle.
Bonnie was born on June 30, 1926, in Iowa City, the daughter of Janie Norton. In 1945, she took a train to San Diego, CA and married Wilbur C. “Bud” Young on February 8, 1945, while he was home on leave.
She was a stay-at-home Mom, always having supper on the table when her family came home. Bonnie was always there when the kids and their friends need any help and encouragement. She was a volunteer, serving at the County Home Beauty Shop for over 25 years. As a member of the Marion Christian Church, she helped at many functions and made lots of potato salad and pies for their dinners.
Politically active until the end (she voted on Tuesday), she served at the Democratic Headquarters for most elections. Her great joys were meeting political candidates over the years.
After the death of her son, she kept herself busy with her brother and Mom, taking up bridge.
She realized that she couldn’t do everything for herself, and decided, on her own, to move to Summit Pointe in 2007.
Memorials may be directed to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie Club 695 at: 225 Highway 1 SW, Iowa City, IA 52246, where they will be forwarded onto the National Diabetic Research Center at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
