Bobby Joe Slaton, Sr. 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at his home. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at First Church of the Open Bible, Cedar Rapids, with an hour visitation prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, JoAnn Sexton (Brad) of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Amanda) Slaton of Cedar Rapids, Kenny (Chris) Slaton of Fairfax, Iowa, Bobby Slaton, Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Doug (Tanya) Slaton of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jacque, Derrick, Philip, Bryce, Joe, Kailee, Bentley, Mackenzie, Briona, Danica, Huxley, Bobbi Jo, Bailey, Brayden, Mackenzee, Mackaylee and Izabelle; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Matthew, Maverick, Macoy, Willow, Beckett, Fisher, Scout, Chloe, Preston, Kayden, Emersyn and two on the way; siblings, Wanda (Chuck) Church, Gail (Don) Finn, Judy (Scott) Phillips and Pastor Carol Wayne(Sharon) Slaton; and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Basil; mother, Nellie; and brothers, Donnie and Earl.
Bobby was born on May 8, 1940, in Madisonville, Kentucky, son of Basil and Nellie (Luttrell) Slaton. On December 2, 1961, in Nashua, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church, Bobby and Betty (Dusil) were united in marriage. Bobby owned and operated Ken-way Sewer Service, Inc. for 50 years and Ken-way Excavating, which he sold when he retired. He was a member of Cowboy Church in Walford, Iowa. Bobby was a very hard worker who was always giving to others. He loved his family, especially spending time with his wife, Betty of 56 years. He enjoyed woodworking, building race cars, farming and his steel guitars.
