Bishop George Jovan Broadnax, 62, of 4950 16th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services: Noon, Friday, January 2, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Pastor Wendell Beets and Pastor Carter LeFlore will officiate. Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Camden, Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; his children, Angila, Juan, Royvan, Jovan, Cory and Marcus; and three brothers, Henry Broadnax, Dude Broadnax and Richard Broadnax.
Also surviving are many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Bernita; and a sister, Erma Jean Broadnax.
George was born November 28, 1946, the son of Elmer and Nettie (Thrower) Broadnax, in Camden, Arkansas. He married Stephanie Davis on April 29, 2007, in Indianapolis, Indiana. A member of the Word of Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, George enjoyed preaching, singing and loved his church family and the body of Christ.
