Bill “Tex” Ross, 80, of 5661 Vermont Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, January 13, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, of cancer. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Dr. David Bissell. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; their children, Debra Evanoff, JoEllen (Randy) Davis, Steven Ross, daughter-in-law, Vicki Ross, Gina (Jerry) James, Dana Thompson, T. Shawn (Deborah) Thompson and Kelly (Michele) Thompson; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Clark (Joan) Ross; two sisters, Shirley Knight and Mary (Earl) Reeve; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, John Ross.
Bill was born March 2, 1927, the son of John and Dorothy (Bryant) Ross, in rural Sigourney, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy and worked for Iowa Steel and Welty Way Metal Products. On October 9, 1986, Bill married Shirley Long Thompson in Cedar Rapids. He loved motorcycles and enjoyed riding them. He also loved spending time with his family. Bill lived life on his own terms and enjoyed it to the fullest.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice and Mercy Hospital for the care and support given to Bill.
