Beverly “Bev” Joyce Burt, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at the funeral home.

Bev was born on April 1, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ira C. and Eleanor Jane (Jones) Smith. She graduated in 1954, from Norway High School, Norway, Iowa. On September 3, 1954, Bev was united in marriage to Henry Earl Burt in Palo, Iowa. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids where they raised their two daughters, Debbie and Sherrie. Bev worked at the Linn County Courthouse in the Abstract Office and the Soldiers Relief Office. In later years, she was a cook for the Prairie School District in Cedar Rapids. Bev’s primary job was staying home and raising her two daughters. She felt it was important for her to be home to guide and support them; Bev took great pride in this role. When her granddaughters, Kylee and Kelsey, came into the picture, she made herself readily available when called upon. She was a loving grandma who thought the world of them. Bev enjoyed dancing with Hank, going on vacations with her family, going to the casinos and playing bingo.

When faced with health issues, Bev was a fighter with her “never give up” attitude. Due to her spunk and wit, Bev never knew a stranger. She lived life on her own terms as she was strong in her convictions, yet flexible in her thinking. Bev’s courage and determination served her well during her lifetime. She impacted the lives of many and will never be forgotten.

Bev’s family includes her husband of 63 years, Hank Burt of Cedar Rapids; her daughters, Debbie Erenberger of Walford, Iowa; Sherrie Burt (Nancy Kies) of Rockford, Iowa; and two granddaughters, Kylee Kozisek of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kelsey (Austin) Ressler of Ely, Iowa. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Eleanor Smith; three brothers, Milford, Merlin, and Orville Smith; two sisters, Darlene Weaver and Shirley Jones; and son-in-law, Greg Erenberger.

Bev’s family thanks the UnityPoint Hospice staff for their compassion and support during this difficult time. We are very grateful for the dignity and respect that were given when caring for Bev/Mom.
