Betty Ruth Ward, 76, of 2501 Hwy. 13, formerly of Onslow, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at her home, from complications of cancer. Private family graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include her son, Terry J. (Jeanette) Ward of Clarence; her daughter, Najette V. (LJ) McCarthy of Onslow; ten grandchildren, Cindy McCarthy, Jim McCarthy, Angie Gloeckner, Larklyn Brokaw, Tarra Kurtenbach, Tiffany Day, Cory Ward, Tanya Marcum, Lita Dixon and Regina Ulferts; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Tschantz of Monticello, Eleanor (Tuddy) Wroblewski of Marion and Janice (Jene) Schmidt of Marion; and special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Max and Sam; and three sisters, Norma, Alleyne and Hazel.
Betty was born January 15, 1929, the daughter of Allen and Rachel (Leggett) Reyner in Jones County. She married Leonard Ward, they later divorced. Betty was a homemaker and had various other jobs including waitressing, home health care and sales. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
A memorial fund has been established in Betty?s memory.
