Betty Lou Walker, 74, a resident of West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at the care center, from complications of Alzheimers Disease. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sons, Butch Walker and wife Claudette of Marion and Mike Walker and wife LeAnn of Waverly; a daughter, Cheryl Smejkal and husband Terry of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jerry Grimm of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Duane Weaver and wife Yvonne of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Brian, Steve, David, Kevin, Kristie, Greg and Curt; and six great-grandchildren, Madyson, Mackenzie, Sydney, Jacob, Haley and Alexis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nathan; and a brother, Dale Weaver.
Betty was born August 13, 1928, the daughter of Earl John and Marie Jane (Hughes) Weaver. She married Nathan P. Walker on October 1, 1949, in Marion. Together, they owned and operated Walker?s Upholstery. Nate died May 5, 2001. Betty loved to crochet, sew and do hand crafts.
Memorials may be given to either the Alzheimers Association of Eastern Iowa or Hospice of Mercy in Betty?s memory.
