Betty J. Verteiko, 80, of 3012 Outlook Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006, in her home, following complications of Alzheimers. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Robert Pleiness of Good News Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Peter; her children, Sandra Verteiko, Suzanne (Mark) Briceland, and Peter D. Verteiko, all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Brandy Johnson, Matthew (Kris) Briceland, Farrah Fuehrer, Marie Briceland and Daniel Briceland; and nine great-grandchildren, Keelea, Khloe, Gavin, Kallie, Sheldon, Abby, Falon, Kirrah and Uriah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marie and Debra; a brother, Albert Lindquist; and a half-sister, Dorothy Hruby.
Betty was born October 15, 1925, the daughter of Albert S. and Genevieve (Steinbeck) Lindquist, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On July 30, 1949, she was united in marriage to Peter Verteiko, in Iowa City, Iowa. Betty worked at Wilson & Company, Collins and Seigs Automotive. A devoted wife, mother and grandma, she loved her family and enjoyed caring for them.
